A 17-year-old Indian-origin teenager, Arjun Aravind, in Massachusetts has been charged with allegedly killing his mother and younger brother inside their family home.
Arjun Aravind, from Acton, Massachusetts, faces two murder charges along with several assault and battery charges. The victims have been identified as his mother, 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind.
The incident happened on Tuesday, August 11. According to authorities, Arjun’s father called police after he could not reach his family. A tutor who had arrived at the house for a scheduled appointment also could not get anyone to answer the door.
Police went to the family’s home on Martha Lane and found both victims dead. Authorities said they had suffered fatal injuries. The exact cause of death and whether a weapon was used are still being investigated.
Arjun was not at the house when police arrived. Investigators said he had allegedly left in his mother’s car, leading to an overnight search. He was found early Wednesday morning in Wayland, Massachusetts. Police located the car while responding to an unrelated alarm and found Arjun inside. He was taken into custody without incident.
Shocking ChatGPT Activity Raises Questions
The case took an even more disturbing turn after investigators revealed details about Arjun’s recent internet activity.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said Arjun had shown concerning behaviour. Authorities said he used the internet and ChatGPT to explore theoretical ideas or fantasies about killing his family. They also said he used ChatGPT while creating Gothic-style stories and characters.
Investigators are looking into whether this activity was connected to the alleged killings. However, authorities have not established a clear motive at this stage.
Arjun is a student at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Because he is 17, the case involves both the juvenile and adult court systems in Massachusetts. He was expected to face proceedings in juvenile court, while the murder charges were to be handled in Concord District Court.
Investigators are continuing to determine what happened inside the home and what led to the deaths of Sudha and Siddharth. Arjun Aravind has only been charged and has not been convicted. The allegations against him will be decided through the court process.
