A disturbing CCTV video has surfaced showing Rakesh Patel, a 50-year-old Indian-origin motel manager from Gujarat, being shot at point-blank range outside the Pittsburgh Motel in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania. The video shows Patel stepping out to check a disturbance on October 3, 2025, just before he was fatally shot in the head.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
Police have identified the shooter as 37-year-old Stanley Eugene West. He allegedly opened fire right after Patel asked, “Are you alright, bud?” Patel died instantly. A woman present during the altercation survived, but her medical condition has not been revealed.
Attack and Police Response
After shooting Patel, West reportedly fired at officers who rushed to the scene. Police subdued him after a brief exchange. He is now hospitalized in critical condition under police custody. Officers recovered the weapon used, and investigations are still underway.
Patel’s Background and Family
Rakesh Patel hailed from Rayam village in Bardoli, Gujarat. He managed the Pittsburgh Motel with his wife, Hemu. The couple had recently returned to the US in October 2024 after celebrating a family wedding and Raksha Bandhan in India.
Rising Concern Among Indian Community
This tragic incident marks the third killing of an Indian-origin person in the US within a month. Earlier cases include the September 10 beheading of an Indian motel manager in Texas and the October 3 shooting of 27-year-old Chandrashekar Pole in Dallas. These repeated attacks have sparked serious concern among Indian immigrants about their safety abroad.
