July: Deadliest Month for US Mass Shootings

US Mass ShootingsThe Gun Violence Archives website in the United States reported a 9% increase in mass shootings compared to last year, with July being the deadliest month so far.

In 2023, there will have been 406 mass shootings, including a tragic incident in Houston where a pregnant woman was killed and four others injured. July alone witnessed 65 mass shootings, resulting in 81 deaths and 300 injuries.

The website recorded over 10,724 deaths caused by weapons, including 161 children and 856 adolescents. Additionally, there were more than 21,251 gun injuries, over 13,530 gun suicides, and 923 accidental shootings in the first 200 days of the year.

The issue of gun violence remains contentious in the U.S., with debates between gun control advocates and those supporting gun rights, including the influential National Rifle Association (NRA).
