Wife Murder: Indian Jailed For Life In U.S.

Merin Joy Murder

In a deeply disturbing incident that took place in Florida, an Indian American man named Philip Mathew received a life sentence for brutally killing his 26-year-old wife, Merin Joy.

Merin, who worked as a nurse and hailed from Kerala, was trapped in an abusive relationship and had been planning to leave.

The horrifying events unfolded when Mathew intentionally blocked Merin’s car at the hospital where she worked. He viciously stabbed her 17 times and callously drove over her lifeless body.

Colleagues rushed to help, and in her final moments, Merin could only plead, “I have a baby,” a heart-wrenching cry that still echoes in the memories of those who were there. Before her tragic passing, Merin managed to identify her attacker, leading to Mathew’s arrest.

In court, Mathew admitted his guilt to first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, receiving a life sentence with no chance of release. This spared him from the death penalty due to his decision not to appeal.

Although Joy’s family will forever carry the weight of her terrifying final moments, they can take some comfort in knowing that her murderer will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
