Bollywood has films that are announced with one actor and then take a different shape. Be Happy, releasing on Amazon Prime Video on March 14, 2025, is one such film.

Many assumed it was a revival of Dancing Dad, a project that Remo D’Souza had planned with Salman Khan in 2016-2017. But while the theme may be the same, Be Happy is a new film altogether.

Back in 2017, Remo D’Souza had envisioned Dancing Dad, a dance-based emotional drama about a father and his daughter.

Salman Khan was to star in the film but before it could take off, Salman asked Remo to direct Race 3 instead. Hoping for a big action film, Remo put Dancing Dad on hold.

The decision proved costly. Race 3 turned out to be one of the worst films of Salman’s career.

The film became a meme sensation for all the wrong reasons and after its failure, Salman apparently distanced himself from Remo.

With that, Dancing Dad was shelved and Remo’s directorial credibility took a hit.Years later, Remo came back with a new film, Be Happy, starring Abhishek Bachchan as a single father.

Though rumors suggested it was a reworked version of Dancing Dad, recent reports confirm that Be Happy is a different film altogether.

The core emotion of a father’s journey to support his daughter’s dreams remains but the script and execution have changed.

Had Dancing Dad been made with Salman Khan in 2017, it would have been a big Bollywood film.

Now Be Happy is releasing in an era where OTT platforms are dominant and offer a more personal storytelling.
