Prime Video Cancels Samantha’s Big-budget Series

Prime Video Cancels Citadel Honey Bunny

In a shocking development, Amazon Prime Video has officially CANCELLED Citadel: Honey Bunny, the much-hyped Indian adaptation starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

The ambitious project, which marked Prime Video’s foray into an interconnected global spy universe, will not return for a second season.

According to Amazon MGM Studios, storylines from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and the Italian version, Citadel: Diana, will now be absorbed into the upcoming second season of the main American series led by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

The decision comes after both spinoffs failed to make the global impact Amazon was expecting, despite decent reviews from the Indian audience.

The cancellation isn’t entirely surprising. The Citadel franchise was envisioned as a globe-spanning, multi-language cinematic universe by the Russo Brothers, but it has struggled to live up to its massive hype.

From production overbudgets—reportedly crossing $200 million for Season 1—to behind-the-scenes chaos including reshoots and multiple walkouts, the show never quite found its footing.

While Season 2 of the mothership series is in post-production and slated for a Q2 2026 release, the international spinoffs have been quietly shelved. Even plans for new chapters in regions like Mexico are reportedly on hold.

With Varun and Samantha’s Citadel: Honey Bunny now scrapped, all eyes will now be on the main series to deliver the cinematic punch that the brand sorely needs. We have to see if Samantha will star in the main American series or not.
