Munjya surprised everyone with its unique concept and positive word of mouth, earning over Rs 100 crore despite lacking star power. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, it showcased his storytelling prowess.
Now, Aditya Sarpotdar’s latest venture, Kakuda, another horror-comedy starring Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha, and Saqib Saleem, was released directly on Zee5.
Based on an old folklore about a ghost named Kakuda, the film follows Riteish as a ghost hunter tackling supernatural challenges in a village haunted by the spirit.
However, unlike Munjya, Kakuda is boring for the most part. It’s a weak script, resembling other films like Stree and Bhediya without adding new depth or humor. The film fails to sustain interest, making its nearly two-hour runtime feel tedious.
Despite efforts in visual effects and music, Kakuda fails to deliver the scares or impact expected from a horror comedy. It is obvious that the makers knew the film had no potential in theaters and that’s why dumped it on OTT.
In summary, Aditya Sarpotdar has seen one blockbuster in theaters with Munjya, but Kakuda is a disappointment on the OTT platform.
