Mohanlal’s much-awaited Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, was released in theatres on 21 May and went on to become a major box office success. The film reportedly collected more than ₹240 crore worldwide, further strengthening the popularity of the Drishyam franchise.
Despite its strong commercial performance, the film received mixed reactions from a section of theatrical audiences. However, the popularity of the franchise and the curiosity surrounding the third instalment encouraged large numbers of viewers to watch the film in cinemas.
Following its successful theatrical run, Drishyam 3 began streaming on Amazon Prime on 18 June. The film was released in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi, allowing a wider audience to experience the latest chapter of the franchise from home.
Many expected the film to receive a strong response on OTT due to its box office success. However, social media reactions from streaming audiences have been mixed, with some viewers expressing disappointment after watching the film on the platform.
A section of viewers believes that Drishyam 3 is the weakest entry in the franchise. According to these reactions, the film becomes engaging only during its final minutes, while the rest of the narrative feels slow and stretched in several portions.
Some viewers have also commented on the screenplay. They feel that Jeethu Joseph succeeded in creating an interesting central plot but was unable to maintain the same level of tension and engagement that made the earlier films so effective.
At the same time, there are audiences who have defended the film. They argue that while Drishyam 3 may not fully match the high expectations set by its predecessors, it remains a watchable family thriller with an intriguing mystery at its core.
The differing opinions have created an interesting discussion around the film’s OTT performance. While the theatrical run was highly successful, the coming weeks will reveal whether Drishyam 3 can maintain momentum and attract strong viewership on Amazon Prime.
