The 2020 romantic comedy Ginny Weds Sunny arrived on Netflix during the lockdown period-people, cooped up at home with nothing else to do, watched more out of tedium than actual enthusiasm.
Its formulaic plot and breezy, forgettable entertainment made it an acceptable watch amidst the pandemic but certainly not a standout in the saturated OTT space. The chemistry between Vikrant Massey and Yami Gautam was a saving grace, providing some charm to an otherwise forgettable movie.

Now that Ginny Weds Sunny 2 has been announced, the makers appear to be set on making a one-off, time-pass movie into a franchise-despite the original not being a cultural phenomenon or a critical favourite.
In a shock move, the sequel will have an entirely new lead couple: Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar instead of Yami and Vikrant, whose on-screen chemistry was possibly the first film’s sole selling point.

Though Avinash and Medha are good actors, it will be interesting to see if they can match or even exceed the chemistry of their predecessors.
Producer Vinod Bachchan is said to be planning a more visually stunning and emotionally involving sequel, but revamping the cast and the lack of a significant fan sentiment make it questionable if this sequel is truly needed.
