In 2018, there was a movie with minimal promotions which unfortunately didn’t fare well in theaters and was called off early. Later, when people rediscovered it on OTT platforms, they realized how good of a craft it was. Slowly, it became a cult hit, redefining the dying horror genre in Bollywood. It was “Tumbbad”.
When the director of the movie, Rahi Anil Barve, in 2022, announced that he is going to make another movie that will be even bigger and better than “Tumbbad”, people got curious to know more about it. It became a phenomenon in the news, and fans of “Tumbbad” got really excited about it. However, it’s been more than two years, and we have received no further updates on “Gulkanda Tales”. Even a magnum opus like “House of Dragon” was announced, made, and released in that time period.
The producers and director have been silent since the announcement, which raises a lot of questions. They haven’t even denied that the film is shelved. But this suspense can backfire many times, as we have seen with projects like “Jagga Jasoos” and even “Brahmastra”, where unnecessary delays can kill the hype that was already built.
As of now, the makers are just sharing behind-the-scenes pictures of the movie. While this might be their strategy, it might also be possible that they do not have anything substantial to show us.
