Dhanush’s fourth directorial venture, Idli Kadai, hit theatres on October 1 and received mixed reactions from audiences. The film has now completed its theatrical run with average box office numbers, struggling to make a strong impact in cinemas.
After its big-screen journey, Idli Kadai is gearing up for its OTT premiere on Netflix from October 29, with a four-week digital window. The film will stream in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, making it accessible to a wider audience.
While Idli Kadai didn’t fare well among non-Tamil viewers, it found appreciation in Tamil Nadu. Still, it couldn’t maintain strong collections, largely due to Kantara, which released at the same time and drew most theatre-goers.
With its upcoming Netflix release, social media users believe Idli Kadai could find new life online. Many feel it’s a heartfelt, rooted film and Dhanush’s best directorial work since Power Paandi. They argue it deserved more recognition in theatres.
Others, however, are not as convinced. Some users claim the film is overdramatic and filled with awkward emotional moments, predicting it will become a “troll fest” once it lands on OTT platforms.
As mixed opinions continue, all eyes are now on October 29, when Idli Kadai drops on Netflix. Whether it redeems itself as an OTT success or fuels more memes remains to be seen.
