Selvaraghavan has carved a special place for himself among Tamil cinema’s most talented directors over the past two decades. He made a striking debut with Kadhal Konden, starring his younger brother Dhanush. His next film, 7/G Brindavan Colony, became a cult hit across Tamil and Telugu audiences, establishing him as a bold and unconventional storyteller.
The director went on to create memorable films like Aayirathil Oruvan (Yuganiki Okkadu in Telugu), Pudhupettai (Dhoolpet), and Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule. Each of these films stood out for their unique narratives, complex emotions, and distinct cinematic voice.
However, Selvaraghavan’s directorial journey slowed down in the past decade. His recent works haven’t matched the artistic intensity or emotional depth of his earlier classics. He has also shifted some focus to acting, appearing in several films in recent years.
Currently, Selvaraghavan is busy developing the sequel to 7/G Brindavan Colony, which has already sparked strong anticipation among fans. Alongside it, he is also working on Aayirathil Oruvan 2 and Pudhupettai 2, sequels to his cult favourites. Reports say he has been refining their scripts and background work for several years.
At one stage, Selvaraghavan even announced Aayirathil Oruvan 2 with Dhanush, but it later turned out to be part of a promotional campaign. Many fans and critics, however, believe Karthi, who starred in the original, would be the ideal choice for the sequel.
Meanwhile, Pudhupettai 2 is also being planned with Dhanush in mind, though neither Dhanush nor Karthi has officially confirmed their involvement. For now, fans continue to wait eagerly to see whether Selvaraghavan’s ambitious sequels will finally come to life.
