‘Indian’ Streaming on Netflix Causes Confusion

Indian Streaming on Netflix

There are numerous stories in digital media about how the OTT industry has successfully disrupted the theatrical business to a large extent. Recently, Vishwan Sen’s “Gangs of Godavari” landed on OTT just 14 days after its release.

Now, all of a sudden, a screenshot of “Indian” streaming on Netflix from next Monday has caused confusion.

The immediate impression or confusion is that the announcement is about “Indian 2,” which has just been released. It’s more about the optics, as it’s not uncommon for films with negative reviews to land on OTT platforms soon. However, there’s no way “Indian 2” will be on OTT this soon.

The confusion caused by the screenshot, along with Netflix’s timing, has added to it.

Ideally, Netflix should have released the first part before “Indian 2” released. Announcing it now, especially when “Indian 2” has received poor reviews, definitely seems like an attempt to cash in on the “Indian” brand.
