Netizens had been complaining about the Hindi and English commentaries in the cricket matches for some time for various reasons and mistakes. But Jio Hotstar seems to have played a brilliant masterstroke by introducing regional languages in the commentary section.
The Haryanvi and Bhojpuri commentaries have been liked by people a lot and the users appreciated the effort of the platform. There have been many posts on social media from people about the ecstasy of having the commentary in one’s own language.
This is a novel approach and has not been done on OTT before. It is a great start and Jio Hotstar should try out more languages in the sports streaming segment and it will improve the user experience a lot more.
Meanwhile, they should also pay heed to the complaints and demands regarding the Hindi and English commentaries which are not going as smoothly. Being respectful to the local languages and being more inclusive will help the platform in edifying their monopoly in the sports streaming business.
