Director AR Murugadoss’ latest film Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Rukmini Vasanth, was released in theatres on 5 September 2025. Though launched as a pan-India project, the film’s box office performance has been underwhelming.
In Tamil Nadu, it opened to an average response. In the Telugu states, the film struggled to attract audiences. While some believe it’s a better effort than Murugadoss’ previous failure Sikandar, Madharaasi is likely to be declared a flop soon.
Latest reports confirm that Madharaasi will have its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 3 October 2025, just four weeks after its theatrical release. It is expected to stream in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and other languages.
The early OTT release gives viewers who skipped the theatres a chance to watch the film at home. A small group of viewers felt the first half and the love story between Sivakarthikeyan and Rukmini Vasanth was decent.
With its Prime Video release, Madharaasi might find a second life on OTT. If online viewers respond better than theatre audiences, it could be a morale boost for both Sivakarthikeyan and AR Murugadoss.
Industry experts believe that Madharaasi may connect better on OTT platforms, where success doesn’t rely on opening day numbers. Since expectations are already low, some OTT viewers might be pleasantly surprised by the film.
The Prime Video release could help Madharaasi reach a broader audience, possibly changing its current narrative and offering it a second chance at success.
