He explained that Saudi Arabia’s audiovisual commission had brought up to 30 charges against him related to his popular animated Netflix series Masameer in 2021.

Despite consulting Saudi officials, he faced questioning and criticism for choosing Netflix over local networks.

Middle East Eye has reached out to the Saudi government and Netflix for comments.

Among the charges against al-Muzaini was the use of certain phrases in his series, like May God curse you and You donkey, considered criminal offenses.

The most serious charge accuses Abdul al-Muzaini and his company, Myrcott, of supporting terrorism and homosexuality through their series Masameer.
