Despite the hype around its cast and production, Robinhood starring Nithiin, Sreeleela, Rajendra Prasad, and Vennela Kishore, with a cameo by Australian cricketer David Warner ended up as a box office washout.
Backed by Mythri Movie Makers and featuring music by GV Prakash Kumar, the film promised an energetic entertainer but delivered a flat, routine experience that failed to excite audiences.
From the moment it hit theaters, Robinhood faced severe backlash. Audiences slammed the film for its shallow writing, lack of originality, and uninspired execution.
Even David Warner’s cameo, a marketing gimmick meant to grab attention, fell completely flat. While a few comedy scenes worked in bits and pieces and the production values were solid, they weren’t enough to save the overall mess.
Now, the film is gearing up for its OTT release. ZEE5 has acquired the post-theatrical rights, and Robinhood is set to start streaming on May 10.
Zee Telugu has also picked up the satellite rights, signaling a full-fledged push to revive the film through OTT and satellite viewership.
But the big question is — will it work? Theatrical audience rejected it outright. And in reality, OTT audiences are far more brutal, as they pinpoint even the mistakes that were overlooked in theaters.
There’s a fair chance that Robinhood could become another online punching bag.
