Producers have recently shut down rumors about their blockbuster film ‘Premalu’ being sold to an online streaming platform.
Directed by Girish A.D. and starring Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju, the movie has been a huge hit in theaters.
Despite rumors claiming otherwise, Bhavana Studios clarified that they haven’t made any deals with streaming services for the film’s online rights.
It’s quite unusual for a film’s OTT rights to remain unsold, as most producers aim to secure digital rights well before a movie’s release to cover significant portions of their budget. With satellite rights offering limited returns, OTT deals have emerged as crucial lifelines for producers.
If a producer delays selling a film’s OTT rights and the movie underperforms at the box office, it’s a tough situation. Not only does the producer face financial losses from the theatrical run, but the lack of a pre-existing OTT deal compounds the setback.
However, ‘Premalu’ defies this trend, emerging as a goldmine for its creators. The film’s resounding success at the box office positions it as a highly sought-after asset for OTT platforms.
With its strong box office performance, the producers now have the upper hand in negotiating deals with streaming services.
This translates to a double win for the makers – substantial box office earnings coupled with lucrative OTT offers.
Additionally, the movie is set for a Telugu release on March 8, with S S Karthikeya, son of Rajamouli, acquiring its dubbing and distribution rights.
Having grossed over Rs 70 crore at the box office, ‘Premalu’ has proven to be a double win for its makers, both in theaters and potentially in the online space.
