Reporting Live: Netflix Disappoints Despite Powerful Story

Parineeti Chopra’s latest Netflix film, Reporting Live, is out and the responses that it has received are quite mixed. Many are acknowledging its relevant subject but questioning its execution. The investigative thriller is directed by Dhruv Tripathi and follows journalist Sandhya Yadav and her cameraman Vinod Sharma as they uncover an illegal sand-mining racket after a bridge collapse in Maharashtra.

The biggest criticism is the film’s predictable screenplay and outdated portrayal of journalism. One person called Parineeti miscast by arguing that the film explains journalism in an overly simplistic manner. According to them, it doesn’t capture the urgency and complexity of investigative reporting. Another user similarly criticised its simplistic storytelling and pointed to a weakened narrative.

For many viewers, the problem was the weak writing, a major drawback. This also suggests that the promising premise and Parineeti Chopra’s sincere performance are undermined by underdeveloped storytelling. Some users praised Deven Bhojani, while noting that the investigation lacks sufficient urgency and impact.

However, not every assessment was negative. One user described the film as a solid thriller about crusading journalism and praised its focused storytelling. Overall, the critical response suggests that Reporting Live has a worthwhile story to tell but struggles to deliver the tension, originality and realism expected of an investigative thriller.
