Venkatesh Daggubati’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is proving to be a juggernaut yet again, this time on OTT. After its blockbuster theatrical run, where the makers claimed it grossed over 250 crores worldwide, the film has now shattered records on ZEE5, delivering the biggest-ever opening for a Telugu film on the platform.
Premiering on March 1, 2025, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam created history by debuting simultaneously on TV (Zee Telugu) and OTT (ZEE5), a bold move that paid off handsomely.

ZEE5 acquired the film’s digital rights for a record ₹30 crores—the highest OTT deal ever for a Venkatesh film. And the numbers prove it was worth the investment.
Within just six hours of its digital release, the film amassed 7 lakh views and a staggering 70 million viewing minutes, as per reports.

The hype translated into a direct business impact as well, with ZEE5 gaining 25,000 new subscriptions in a single day. This is a massive feat for the platform, which typically doesn’t command the same dominance as Netflix or Amazon Prime.
However, fans quickly noticed that the OTT version is slightly trimmed, running 2 hours and 16 minutes compared to the theatrical cut of 2 hours and 24 minutes. This led to some disappointment, especially among those expecting extended comedy scenes.

Meanwhile, the Zee Telugu TV premiere took a different approach by replaying the Godari Gattu song twice to keep viewers entertained.
While the initial views on OTT have been phenomenal, it remains to be seen how audiences react in the coming days, and how the film holds in terms of views.
Some scenes might attract trolling or criticism, but one thing is clear—Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is a certified blockbuster in theaters and now on streaming as well.
