IC814: The Kandahar Hijack is directed by Anubhav Sinha and Trishant Shrivastava. It brings the story of Kandahar Plane Hijack in a thrilling limited series. A plane takes off from New Delhi to Kathmandu but it is hijacked by a bunch of terrorists who direct it to Kandahar in Afghanistan. They demanded the release of Talibani terrorists captured by the Indian government. The terror of the passengers and the crew is hard to imagine but the series promises an immersive experience close to the details.
The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra. There have been notable films and series in the past that have portrayed true incidents, the problem is that they are marketed with larger than life expectations. Earlier, The Railway Men was released as India’s Chernobyl and told the story of the Bhopal gas leak incident. Even R. Madhavan and Babil Khan’s performance couldn’t save it from failing miserably.
It is the authenticity of the screenplay and dedicated performances that are of prime importance to the fans. Whether IC814 lives up to the expectations or becomes a same old lousy adaptation of true crime will only be revealed on 29 August. The self-acclaimed groundbreaking projects have often utterly disappointed the fans and airplane hijack has already been showcased by several directors. It will be interesting to note what unique experience this project brings for us!
