BO: After OTTs, Another Headache for New Films

PVR INOX Re- Releasing Aamir Khan Films on His Birthday

In a special tribute to Aamir Khan on his 60th birthday, PVR INOX has announced the re-release of some of his most iconic films, including Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Taare Zameen Par, Rang De Basanti, PK, and more.

This film festival will last for a month and showcase 12–13 films from one of Bollywood’s most influential actors.

Re-releasing films seems to be a successful strategy for PVR. After the successful re-releases of films like Tumbbad, Sanam Teri Kasam, Laila Majnu, and Rockstar, the multiplex chain appears to be capitalizing on every opportunity to bring older films back to the big screen.

PVR Inox also announced a special Women’s Day lineup featuring Highway, Queen, and Fashion.

Additionally, Sairat and Kumbalangi Nights are being re-released in select regions.

While this trend of re-releases is proving profitable for PVR Inox and other multiplex chains, it is also impacting the performance of new theatrical releases.

Re-releases, especially of iconic films, generate significant hype and excitement among audiences.

While it’s understandable that multiplexes are resorting to re-releases to stay relevant in an OTT-dominated era, this strategy also limits the visibility of newer films.

The craze around re-releases often overshadows fresh releases, causing them to underperform at the box office.

With Bollywood already struggling to produce quality films and facing intense competition, an increasing number of re-releases may lead to newer films losing a significant share of the audience to nostalgia-driven screenings.
