Fans of Saiyaara actor Ahaan Panday are eagerly waiting for his upcoming action-romantic thriller directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, but a new update about the film’s villain has sparked mixed reactions. Reports suggest that Bobby Deol has been finalized to play the antagonist in the movie.
While the news initially created excitement, many users online have started expressing frustration over Bobby Deol being typecast as a villain yet again. Ever since his menacing role in Animal, Bobby has been consistently cast in dark and negative characters in projects like Bads of Bollywood, Kanguva, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, and Daaku Maharaaj. He will also appear as a villain in YRF’s upcoming spy film Alpha, adding to the pattern.
Social media users have voiced their opinion, saying that while Bobby Deol has mastered the art of playing an intense villain, audiences are now craving to see him in a different avatar. Comments like “Bobby Deol has become Bollywood’s default villain” and “Give him something fresh for once” have been flooding social media.
For Ali Abbas Zafar, this project is also a crucial one. After facing criticism for the weak villain portrayal of Prithviraj Sukumaran in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the director is said to be looking for a powerful and well-written antagonist to bring balance to the story. If executed well, Bobby Deol’s role could add real intensity to the film.
However, critics feel that overexposure to similar villain roles could backfire for the actor. While Bobby Deol’s powerful screen presence has worked wonders in the past, playing repetitive dark characters risks making his persona predictable.
Only time will tell whether Ali Abbas Zafar manages to reinvent Bobby Deol’s image with a refreshing portrayal or if it will turn out to be just another intense yet familiar villain performance.
