Brahmastra 2: Why Big Studios Rejecting Ranbir’s Sequel?

Ranbir Kapoor in Brahmastra 2 update

Preparations for Brahmastra 2 started recently after a long break of more than three years. However, the sequel has witnessed an unexpected situation before it could go on the floors.

Director Ayan Mukerji’s company, Starlight Pictures Private Limited, currently holds the rights to the film’s IP, and they are returning to produce the sequel. Moreover, they are also aiming to bring another production company on board to make things a little easier for them.

Although the makers approached Jio Studios as a partner, the plans did not work, and Jio has opted to walk away from the expected collaboration. Apart from this, Star Studios is also not linked with the franchise since their business is now a part of JioStar, under which Jio Studios operates.

The worst part is that Dharma Productions has also walked away from the film. Ayan also spoke to Yash Raj Films. But due to the underwhelming performance of War 2 at the box office, YRF has opted not to associate themselves with the sequel in any manner.

As of now, it looks like the sequel won’t enter production until Ayan finds a partner studio. The major production companies, including the one with whom Ayan has worked in the past, have preferred to step down from the sequel. While this is bad news for Ayan, an insider claims that since there is little hype for the film, Ayan won’t have trouble finding a partner studio.

Netizens reacted by saying that Ayan should not depend on any other studio for now and can instead continue the film by keeping Ranbir Kapoor as a producer. A few even pointed out that Ayan should focus on bringing a good story this time instead of spending more and bringing better visuals. Trade experts also agreed, addressing the fact that the box office is very unpredictable.

On the other hand, a particular section of the audience also praised the big production companies for walking away from the sequel. They said that the first movie was not up to the mark and Ayan cannot be expected to make a better sequel when his first attempt was not so good.

The biggest question that remains right now is whether the decision of big production companies to walk away from Brahmastra 2 will delay its shoot and release. Let’s wait and see.
