Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, has achieved a significant milestone with grossing over Rs 200 crore worldwide, with Rs 177 crore generated solely from the Indian market. This makes it the second Hindi-language film to achieve this after Chhaava.
This makes Raid 2 the sixth Indian 2025 movie to achieve this globally!
In contrast to high-budget projects like Chhaava, which reportedly had a budget of about 150 crore, Raid 2’s success in reaching this box office milestone is especially noteworthy, given its estimated budget was just ₹55 crore.
Even with its grand budget, songs, and lavish wardrobe, Chhaava largely benefited from being released strategically around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti to tap into emotional and cultural sentiments.
Critics pointed out the film’s excessive use of slow-motion shots and average performances, but audiences largely overlooked these flaws due to its sentimental values among the public.
In spite of the competition Raid 2 managed to overcome its drawbacks and delivered a film with a compelling plot and noteworthy performances from both its leads: Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh.
Even after facing much of the heat for its unnecessary and flashy item songs, the film’s substance covered up the mess quicker than expected.
For Bollywood these are notes worth taking on how a mid-budget film like Raid 2 can perform on par with an over the top film like Chhaava just by having a good and simple storyline executed well enough.
While having a large budget and popular actors is undoubtedly a start in the right direction, an audience will always choose a compelling plot with interesting characters over flashy backdrops.
