Time and again Bollywood has proven its potential in making films that are not just entertainers but also strike a chord with socially relevant topics. The critical commentary on society’s lapses and age-old regressive traditions are often great backdrops around which sensational films have been made.
Dharma Productions, though known for grand romantic narratives, have shown a commitment to telling socially relevant stories too. Dhadak 2 is set to solidify this commitment with its portrayal of an inter-caste romance.
The film has received 16 cuts by CBFC due to its caste references, religious remarks and acts of violence. Nonetheless, the film is set to release on 1 August and it will clash with Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardar 2, which seems very deadbeat already.
Dhadak 2 has a great chance to mark itself in the legacy of films like Sairat, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Ek Duuje Ke Liye – all of which have raised some critical social issues with the romance. Even at the box office after the Saiyaara storm, the fans seem eager for another romantic drama.
Dhadak 2 can utilise this momentum and give Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri their biggest hit ever.
