Dhurandhar is now in theatres and is getting strong support from the audience. Some viewers feel the film is a little long. Still, interest around the sequel remains high as Dhurandhar 2 is set to release on March 19 next year.
Weekend numbers have reached Rs. 106 crores. A few insiders say corporate bookings may have boosted the figure and that the actual total is closer to Rs. 65 to 70 crores. Even then, the film is expected to hold double digit collections on Monday.
Weekday business may touch Rs. 15 crores. Trade circles feel that makers could report Rs. 20 crores with block bookings. This is still a strong number when compared with other major releases this year.
The sequel will clash with Rocking Star Yash’s film Toxic. The hype created by the first part suggests that Dhurandhar 2 will draw bigger crowds to theatres.
Dhurandhar has genuine appreciation which gives Dhurandhar 2 a strong chance against Toxic. Toxic will depend more on its promotional content. Yash returns to the Hindi market after a long break and it is unclear if the makers of Dhurandhar will accept equal screen sharing.
This may make it tough for Yash to break his earlier North India record of around Rs. 400 crores net. Dhamaal 4 also arrives on the same date. It can pull audiences if its comedy and punchlines connect well.
Trade experts on social media say Toxic currently has low buzz in Hindi. The buzz may improve once promotions begin. Many feel only the Dhurandhar sequel can dominate since audience eagerness is high after the strong response to part 1.
All eyes are now on whether all three titles will bring positive results for the distributors and theatre owners across India.
