Shameless Media: Actors Forced for Clickbait Content

Emraan Hashmi talks secularism during Haq promo

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s film Haq arrives on November 7. The actors have been promoting the movie through several interviews and public appearances.

During one interview, a journalist asked Emraan about rising sensitivity around religion in the country. The question focused on what people should do and what he personally feels about the situation.

Emraan did not address the question directly. Instead, he explained that he chose Haq for its subject, not for any religious reason. He said the screenplay is balanced and does not portray any community negatively, which made him confident about joining the project.

He also mentioned that he views things through a secular perspective. He shared that he is a liberal Muslim, married to a Hindu, has a son who prays and offers puja, and a Christian mother. According to him, this upbringing shaped his approach, and he found nothing concerning in the film.

Emraan added that audiences see movies based on their experiences and upbringing. While he cannot predict reactions, he said his intention and vision while doing the film were transparent and genuine.

This statement resonated with many viewers. They felt that in a secular country, it is sad that an actor must explain his personal life to justify choosing a film.

Fans expressed that religious views have become fragile and defensive. They believe people struggle to support thought-provoking cinema without feeling threatened.

Many also criticised journalists for shifting focus from the film to personal matters. Viral clips from Haq promotions largely revolve around the actors’ families and beliefs instead of discussing the film’s storyline or message.

This made users question whether the promotions were for a film or a gossip show. They said media today often prioritises clickbait over meaningful conversations.

It is unfortunate that Emraan had to clarify his personal background to avoid backlash. This situation reflects how low our tolerance for different views has become, often leading to anger and aggression in society.
