Hrithik Trolls Himself Brutally for WAR 2 Disaster

Hrithik Roshan on War 2 failure

Hrithik Roshan has openly acknowledged War 2’s box office failure, making it a rare moment of honesty from a major Bollywood star. His comment came during an event hosted by Imtiaz Ali, where he joked about the film’s poor performance.

When Imtiaz praised him, Hrithik replied, “You know, my film has bombed at the box office. So it feels good to get all the love. Thank you.” In an industry that rarely discusses failures publicly, this remark stood out.

War 2 opened strongly with Rs. 204 crore net in its first week due to the Independence Day boost. But the film dropped sharply afterward, collecting only Rs. 27 crore in the second week and falling further later. Its final domestic net was about Rs. 244 crore, with a worldwide gross of around Rs. 374 crore. Both figures remained below the estimated Rs. 400 crore breakeven mark.

Releases such as Coolie and Param Sundari around the same period drew away audiences and highlighted War 2’s weak content. The film could not sustain steady footfalls after the opening week.

Hrithik’s self deprecating remark shows a practical acceptance of the outcome. His comment also reflects a deeper truth in today’s big budget Bollywood — star power alone cannot secure long term success without strong storytelling and solid audience engagement.

The result of War 2 serves as a reminder of changing market dynamics and rising expectations in the current film ecosystem.
