Dhadak 2

After being stuck at the CBFC for around three months, Dhadak 2 has finally received a U/A 16+ certificate. However, the certificate was provided after multiple cuts and modifications. The upcoming film features Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles.

Several dialogues have been altered, and a 1-minute 51-second disclaimer has been added at the beginning of the film. A swear word has been cut, and a scene of violence against a woman has been replaced with a black screen.

A dialogue stating that 3,000 years of backlog will not be cleared in just 70 years has been replaced with “backlog of age-old discrimination will not be cleared in just 70 years.” The word “junglee” has been added in place of caste slurs “chamar” and “bhangi.”

Recitation of the poem Thakur Ka Kuan also went through some changes, where Saint Tulsidas’ doha was replaced. A dialogue referring to Bahujan Samaj Party’s founder Kanshi Ram was also changed.

Among other visual cuts, a character urinating on Nilesh was removed, and the blue colour of the dog was also censored. The latter featured a sequence where the blue-colored spirit of a dead dog saves the protagonist of the film.

The duration of a scene featuring the humiliation of Nilesh’s father was also reduced. Another dialogue censored includes “Dharam ka kaam hai”, which has been altered to “Punya ka kaam hai.”

It seems like CBFC was not ready to let go of Dhadak 2 so easily considering the sentiments of the general public. The situation has become completely different nowadays where audiences easily start reacting to certain dialogues and scenes.

Looking at the above-mentioned cuts, there is no possibility that it will impact the film in a bad manner. But the question is whether audiences would rush to the theatres to watch it.

The only problem right now is that Dhadak 2 is also a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which was released in 2018. It was directed by Mari Selvaraj, and his way of making films is completely different compared to Bollywood directors.

A release date for Dhadak 2 is not out yet. However, it remains to be seen how much changes have been implemented by director Shazia Iqbal in the upcoming film.
