In a surprising change at the box office, animated film Mahavatar Narsimha has overtaken romantic hit Saiyaara in ticket bookings on BookMyShow over the last 24 hours. This is not something we often see, especially since animation films based on Indian mythology rarely outperform big commercial movies. Narsimha sold about 78,300 tickets compared to Saiyaara’s 70,300 during this period. It also saw better theater occupancy, 30% as against Saiyaara’s 15%.
While both films are doing well overall, Narsimha has slowed Saiyaara’s strong run, becoming a bit of a roadblock in what many thought would be an unchallenged streak for the romantic film. However, it’s important to keep things in perspective. Saiyaara still has much higher total earnings and is on its way to cross the 300-crore mark. Narsimha, though doing well by animation standards, has made a modest Rs 21.95 crore in four days.
Its rise may be due to curiosity or a niche audience rather than widespread appeal. Initial trends suggest that Narsimha is drawing interest mostly from urban, Hindi-speaking viewers. Whether it can hold its position in the coming days is still unclear. For now, Mahavatar Narsimha has brought some variety to the box office and given a small but interesting twist to the ongoing race. But whether it can keep up this pace and become a long-term challenger to Saiyaara remains to be seen.
