Star Actor Blasts Rashmika: Publicity Over Talent?

Manoj Bajpayee at Jugnuma promotions

Manoj Bajpayee has openly criticised Bollywood for giving preference to PR over real acting talent. The actor, who is promoting his new film Jugnuma: The Fable, shared his concerns about the industry’s growing reliance on image-building.

In an interview with the YouTube channel Humans of Cinema, Manoj Bajpayee pointed out how titles like “Best Actor” or “National Crush” are often given based on publicity campaigns rather than consistent performances.

The actor, known for his craft and intensity, highlighted that experienced artists such as him and Piyush Mishra are often ignored despite their years of dedication to the craft.

“It is humiliating for someone like him, who has trained for years, and for me, who has given everything to this craft. Suddenly, the next day you read ‘best actor’ or ‘national crush’ trending,” he said. According to him, this shows a change in the industry’s values.

Although he did not name anyone directly, many online users felt his remarks were directed at Rashmika Mandanna, who is often called the “national crush” by her fans.

The actor’s statements have once again sparked a debate about the gap between genuine merit and PR-driven popularity in Bollywood.

This is not the first time Manoj Bajpayee has raised such concerns. His frustration highlights how recognition often goes to those with better marketing support instead of deeper artistic contribution.

Meanwhile, Jugnuma, set in the 1980s Himalayas, continues its theatrical run. Fans are also waiting eagerly for his return in The Family Man Season 3.
