Chiranjeevi’s Kaaka is already making news for its business expectations. According to Industry buzz makers are asking around RS 70 crore for the Telugu states theatrical rights and are not willing to settle for a lower amount. That is a big number, even for a film headlined by the Megastar.
The makers may be banking on Chiranjeevi‘s star power, and the advantage of a Sankranthi release. A festive holiday season can give a film a strong opening, but that alone cannot guarantee a distributor’s recovery.
The bigger concern for buyers is how much of that investment they can recover through theatrical business. Paying a high price means the film needs more than a decent opening weekend. It will have to sustain well at the box office, and that is never guaranteed, regardless of the star cast.
For now, the reported asking price puts the focus on the business side of Kaaka. Will distributors see Rs 70 crore as a reasonable bet on Chiranjeevi, or will they feel the makers are asking too much? That is the interesting question ahead of the film’s release.
