Raptadu Fiasco: Sandeep Reddy Fires Back!

Sandeep Reddy Vanga responds to Animal criticism

As reported earlier, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga came under criticism following the recent Raptadu incident, in which a girl child was reportedly assaulted with an electric chainsaw by a 21-year-old individual.

Several people questioned whether violent scenes in films like Animal could influence public behaviour. They particularly pointed to a scene in which Ranbir Kapoor carries a gun into a school. Critics argued that such portrayals could normalise school violence and potentially have an impact on certain sections of the audience.

Now, Sandeep Reddy Vanga appears to have taken note of the criticism. He shared an elaborate message on social media, responding to the comments linking violent cinema to the incident.

“When someone commits a heinous crime, the first response should be empathy & an attempt to understand the larger problem. Not finding a convenient scapegoat in cinema,” Sandeep commented.

He further criticised those using the incident to target filmmakers. According to Sandeep, it is becoming increasingly clear that their concern is not for the victims or their families, but that they are using a horrific tragedy as an excuse to settle personal scores.

He also took aim at what he described as failed, frustrated and jobless male and female actors, along with certain directors, producers and others. He accused them of presenting themselves as social reformers whenever they get an opportunity to criticise someone else’s work.

The incident and the criticism surrounding it appear to have triggered a strong reaction from Sandeep Reddy Vanga. His comments have once again brought the debate over cinematic violence, creative freedom and filmmakers’ responsibility into focus.
