Bollywood’s upcoming Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in their first on-screen pairing, is among the most awaited romantic comedies of the season. Directed by Tushar Jalota and backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock, the film releases on August 29, 2025.
The buzz has been fuelled by its viral chartbuster Pardesiya. Distributors Pen Marudhar have planned a nationwide release with around 2,700 screens and more than 8,000 shows. Advance bookings have been seen as a sign of strong anticipation ahead of release.
By 28th August, over 20,000 tickets had been sold in major multiplex chains such as PVRInox and Cinepolis. Box office expert Himesh Makand estimated that this figure might touch 40,000 by midnight, showing a growing wave of curiosity.
Early trends suggest Param Sundari is performing better than Maddock’s other romantic comedies like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Bhool Chuk Maaf. Himesh predicted an opening day collection in the range of Rs 8–9 crore, a strong sign for the genre.
He also added that Param Sundari could earn around Rs 30 crore over the weekend if the audience response remains positive. However, not everyone is convinced that the bookings reflect genuine demand rather than artificially boosted numbers.
Critics point out that Maddock has a history of corporate bookings, projecting inflated advance sales for films like Chhaava, Skyforce, and Bhool Chuk Maaf. This creates a perception of hype, though actual theatre footfall often tells a different story.
Observers argue that 20,000 tickets nationwide is unimpressive. For comparison, Saiyaara sold nearly 2 lakh tickets despite lacking big stars, promotions, or a large budget. Analysts say true hype would mean at least 1 lakh advance tickets sold.
They predict Param Sundari may not cross even 50,000 advance bookings before release, with corporate purchases still unaccounted for. Comparisons are also being drawn with Chennai Express, a blockbuster hard to match, especially with Tushar Jalota yet to prove himself.
Whether the hype around Param Sundari is organic or inflated, the film has managed to capture attention. The real test begins tomorrow, when audiences decide if this Bollywood north-south romantic comedy is worth the talk or just another marketing push.
