Makers Betting Big on Romance: Golden Era Back?

Param Sundari Aashiqui 3

his early monsoon has brought the wave of romance along with it—and apparently the Bollywood production houses can feel it too.

Nearly all of them are rolling out their own version of love on screen, in hopes of winning hearts (and ticket sales) with a genre that once defined Bollywood.

Maddock Films, following their Bhul Chuk Maaf fiasco, is now placing its bets on Param Sundari to restore the audience’s trust. Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhavi Kapoor, this north-south get-together promises some chaotic romance in Kerala’s picturesque backwaters.

T-Series, never the one to sit it out, is coming in double strong with Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino and an untitled rom-com starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreelela. A nostalgia trip and a Kartik Aaryan rom-com is just what the audience needed but didn’t know.

Tips is also re-entering the game Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hi Hai, while Dharma Productions is also feeling extra generous with Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri and Chaand Mera Dil—yes, those are real titles.

But don’t be deceived; if there’s anyone who can do romance right, it’s Dharma.

And then there’s Netflix, with O Saathi Re, taking care of those who’d rather enjoy the rains and movies from the comfort of their bed.

While the numbers are big, the real question is, will these films deliver? Will the golden era of Bollywood revive, or are we in for the same tropes dressed in new styles?

Either way, Bollywood is officially back in love—and audiences are watching closely to see who really knows how to romance the big screen (and BO) in 2025.
