Sequel Hype, Good Content: But Box Office?
Generally speaking, Indian cinema has fully embraced the culture of franchise films, and sequels. This is possibly why we are witnessing more and more sequel films working at the box office big time.

In this context, we have another interesting sequel coming in Bollywood very soon and it is Raid 2. This is the sequel for 2018 blockbuster Raid which has Ajay Devgn in the lead role and turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
The stage is now set for the arrival of the sequel in theatres on May 1, and the film was promoted aggressively as well. The casting has also been amplified with the addition of Riteish Deshmukh.

However, when it comes to the box of his potential, this film is not pumping as hard as it was expected in the first place.
The current box office projection for the opening day collection of this film, I said to be in the range of ₹10 to 12 crores nett. This might go up marginally to 14 crore based on the last day sales.

While the conventional sequels from South India like Pushpa and KGF could open on the blockbuster note at the Hindi box office, that is not the case with Raid 2 now. And again, this is also understandable, considering that this is not a fully commercial action film, like the mentioned two examples.
At the end of the day, all Bollywood needs now is a proper winning film that would bring the audience to theatres in big numbers. So, regardless of the mediocre openings, if this Ajay Devgn film can generate the right word of mouth, then it could potentially have a huge upside at the Hindi box office.
