Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor starrer Loveyapa is set to hit the theatres this weekend. As the film has a great and compelling plot, the only loophole in the film is that it is a remake of the Tamil film Love Today.
While Loveyapa promises to be a good rom-com for Bollywood, the main issue that arises is whether are viewers ready for another remake. The recent disaster of Baby John, which managed to create good hype before its release is another reminder for Bollywood.

A reminder that remakes are not trendy anymore as fans are aware of Hindi dubs and are not interested in seeing the same story in Hindi with mainstream actors.
Where high profile actors like Varun Dhawan, Hrithik Roshan (Vikram Vedha) and Ajay Devgn (Bholaa) are also unable to attract numbers to a remake, it is quite predictable as to what will happen to Junaid Khan’s debut film this weekend.

It is safe to say that the film will be performing poorly at the box office and even if it does not have a disastrous weekend, the only audiences it has is the youth. Positive word of mouth will try to get the film a decent collection at the box office.
It is high time for the Bollywood filmmakers to realize that remakes would not work now. There was a time when films like Kabir Singh bolstered the box office but now things have changed.

Only time will tell when filmmakers will try to create original stories instead of remaking classic regional films which are already available in different languages across various OTT platforms.
