Sarabhai vs Sarabhai

In a recent interview, producer JD Majethia, known for his successful comedy shows like Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, made a surprise announcement about the sequel for the movie series Khichdi- Khichdi 3.

He was also asked if he planned to make Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai into a movie series, similar to what he accomplished with Khichdi.

JD responded that there might’ve been a chance to make the film earlier, but now the opportunity has passed.

For him, the reason for this is the dropping bar of comedy.

With the comedy genre as we know it almost evaporating from the industry, he believes that the lack of talented actors and writers is the reason for this decline.

Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, Rupali Ganguly, and Rajesh Kumar delivered one of the best performances of their careers, making Sarabhai vs Sarabhai one of the most iconic sitcoms in the history of Indian television.

There is a clear shift in the type of humor today’s audience enjoys. Small gag videos on social media are enough to satiate people’s hunger for comedy.

Khichdi Part 1, which was released in October 2010, performed well at the box office.

However, Khichdi 2, which was released in November 2023, was a complete flop.

Although iconic in the past, it is difficult to predict whether today’s audience can relate to a comedy like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai on the big screen.

This raises the question of how the upcoming sequel will perform, not just at the box office, but also in engaging people back with comedy.




Nostalgia could be an good aspect that helps attract people’s attention towards a project. But after witnessing the trend with nostalgia driven films recently, it’s clear that nostalgia alone cannot save films; only good content can.
