Salman Khan’s 1999 Bollywood classic ‘Biwi No. 1’ has miserably failed to perform on its re-release, managing to achieve a total opening day collection of mere Rs.7 Lakhs.

Adding more fuel to the fire, this disaster-opening performance happened on Cinema Lovers Day, known for high discounts on film tickets.

Directed by David Dhawan, and starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen, the original release was a massive success, making it a cult classic with Rs.52.80 crores worth of earnings worldwide.

In high contrast, it seems that the re-release is struggling to attract footfall in theatres, with projections that it will fail to cross even Rs.25 Lakhs in total business.

On the other hand, other re-releases like SRK’s ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ and ‘Veer Zaara’ are giving a much better performance. With a strong opening of Rs.12 Lakhs, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ is set to earn at least Rs.5 crores.

Veer Zaara has also outperformed all expectations, managing an opening day collection of Rs.20 Lakhs.
