Popular comedian and actor Kapil Sharma’s newly launched café in Surrey, Canada, was the target of a shocking shooting on the night of July 9, 2025.
The incident took place at the busy Payal Business Centre, where unidentified attackers fired at least nine rounds at Kapil’s Café, damaging the premises and nearby structures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Videos from the scene quickly went viral on social media, showing shattered glass, bullet holes, and police cordoning off the area.
The attack has triggered serious concerns over the safety of Indian-origin businesses in Canada and sparked outrage among Sharma’s fans and the wider Indian diaspora.
What makes the incident even more alarming is that Harjit Singh Laddi, an alleged associate of Khalistani sympathizer and gangster Goldy Brar, has reportedly claimed responsibility.
In a video circulating online, Laddi described the shooting as a “warning” and hinted at further threats, raising fears of continued targeting of Indian celebrities and business ventures abroad.
Canadian law enforcement has launched an investigation and is reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Security around the area has also been tightened.
Kapil Sharma, who inaugurated the café just weeks ago with his business partners, has not yet issued a public response.
However, fans and fellow celebrities have expressed concern and solidarity online, urging both Indian and Canadian authorities to take swift action.
This attack sheds light on a disturbing trend — the growing reach of extremist and organized crime networks in Canada.
As Indian public figures and their international ventures gain visibility, the incident underscores the urgent need for stronger protective measures, international cooperation, and heightened diplomatic dialogue.
