The legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle is the pride of the Indian music industry and her voice has such depth and charisma that it draws everyone towards it.

With a career reigning over eight decades she has given some classic tracks to her fans worldwide and continues to remain active at the age of 90 with her recent concert in Dubai.

Fans have come to realise where the depth and pathos in her voice actually comes from and it is none other than her difficult married life and struggles around it.

When Asha ji was just 16 she married Ganpatrao Bhosle who was 20 years older than her. It was a love marriage and they eloped which was not liked by her elder sister and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, due to this the two did not talk for a very long time.

The marriage turned bitter when Ganpatrao physically abused her and her in-laws made her life a living hell. When she was pregnant with her 3rd child, Anand, they abandoned her and she was hospitalized, there she decided to commit suicide by taking a heavy doze of sleeping pills.

But she believes that her love for her child saved her. She realised that her husband was a sadist but stated that she acted as an abiding wife as she considered it her religious duty.

Ironically, her daughter Varsha also attempted suicide in a similar manner and later shot herself to death. By the power of her songs Asha ji has moved many hearts to joy but little did we know that such intense grief resided in her own heart that was never addressed before.
