After months of speculation, the much-awaited romantic drama starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela is now confirmed to release in theatres on Christmas Day 2025. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film is yet to receive an official title but has already generated buzz among audiences. This release date sets it up for a direct box office clash with Alpha, the latest film from the YRF Spy Universe. While predicting the winner is difficult at this stage, the trailers and promotions of both films will play a key role in deciding audience turnout.
Christmas is often seen as a golden window for movie releases, drawing large crowds to theatres. However, questions have been raised over Anurag Basu’s sudden decision to release the film this year. Just last month, he stated that only 40% of the film had been shot, as Kartik was busy filming Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which required him to maintain a clean-shaven look. Anurag had suggested that Kartik should first complete that project before moving on, but now both the cast and crew seem to be rushing to finish the shoot in time.
This hurried schedule has caused concern among Kartik’s fans, who fear that the film’s quality could be affected. With only three months remaining, the team still has to wrap up filming, prepare the trailer, and plan promotions. Adding to the challenge, Saiyaara, a film with a similar storyline, remains fresh in the audience’s memory, making it harder for this project to stand out.
Anurag Basu’s track record also comes into question, as his last release, Metro….In Dino, underperformed at the box office. Delivering two films within a single year could impact his credibility, especially if this one fails to meet expectations. The earlier response to Metro….In Dino might influence the reception of this new romantic drama as well.
Still, there is a possibility for success if the clash with Alpha does not cause significant damage. The YRF Spy Universe has already been facing a dip in interest following mixed reviews for War 2, and current anticipation for Alpha seems lukewarm. Whether Kartik and Sreeleela’s film manages to draw audiences away from YRF’s offering will become clear as more updates surface.
