At a time when Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara has been declared a hit within just a few days of its release, rumours are swirling in the film industry about Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming film.
Co-starring Sreeleela, the film is helmed by Anurag Basu and is also creating a lot of buzz ahead of its release.
However, recent speculations suggest thematic overlaps between the yet-to-be-titled Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela starrer and Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda’s blockbuster Saiyaara.
Both films reportedly feature emotionally intense protagonists shaped by performance and pain, fuelling speculation that Basu’s project was delayed for re-scripting. However, insiders firmly deny any creative clash.
A source close to Basu’s team dismisses the buzz, saying, “They are two different beasts. Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is as different from Anurag Basu film as Bimal Roy’s Devdas is from Sanjay Bhansali’s Devdas.
The only similarity between the two is the dark, joyless protagonist whom love heals. Countless films have been made on this theme, including a new Malayalam film called DNA. How similar is DNA to Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara? For that matter, isn’t Saiyaara like a cousin to Suri’s Aashiqui 2? Every film on doomed love goes back to Devdas. They all have their own story to tell.”
Basu himself acknowledged the surface-level similarity, stating, “Given that both films feature performers as central characters, we knew comparisons would be drawn. But 2 films are completely different from each other.” He also confirmed that the shoot will soon resume, with plans to wrap it up quickly.
This is not the first time that two films based on similar themes are pitted against each other. Saiyaara is already a hit, with Ahaan and Aneet becoming overnight stars. Now, it is yet to be seen whether Sreeleela and Kartik’s film will bring some magic or not.
