Dhanush’s Pan-India Rise or Tamil Nadu Loss?

Dhanush Tere Ishk Mein box office debate

Dhanush’s latest film Tere Ishk Mein has become a major talking point after its strong box office run. The Aanand L Rai directorial released in theatres on November 28th. It received positive responses from both audiences and critics.

With steady word of mouth, Tere Ishk Mein crossed 150 crores worldwide. Nearly 70 percent of the total collections came from the North Indian market. This performance highlighted the film’s strong appeal outside the South.

However, the film collected only around 8.5 crores in Tamil Nadu. This has surprised many fans, as it is Dhanush’s core market. The low numbers have triggered wide discussion on social media.

Several viewers feel that Dhanush is slowly losing his Tamil Nadu market. They believe his recent films are doing better in other states. This view gained strength after Kuberaa performed well in Telugu states but failed badly in Tamil Nadu.

Fans also point to Idli Kadai as an example. Despite being rooted in Tamil culture and receiving positive word of mouth, it collected only around 70 crores worldwide. Its Tamil Nadu box office performance remained weak.

Because of this trend, some suggest Dhanush should refocus on his core audience. They feel ignoring the Tamil market could hurt his long term standing in the state. This opinion is gaining traction online.

On the other hand, trade trackers see this phase differently. They believe Dhanush has now emerged as a solid Pan Indian star. His consistent success in Telugu and Hindi markets supports this view.

According to them, one major blockbuster could elevate his reach further. By acting in films made directly in other languages, Dhanush has built strong markets beyond Tamil Nadu. His future choices will decide the next phase of his career.
