Sohum Shah is moving forward with Tumbbad 2, and early reports suggest a much bigger scale for the sequel. The film is expected to have a long shooting schedule of over 200 days, indicating a strong production plan.

The project is backed by Sohum Shah Films and Pen Studios. This collaboration reflects a clear intent to expand the world of Tumbbad. The makers appear focused on delivering a larger cinematic experience with the sequel.

The original Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve with Adesh Prasad as co-director, had a different journey. Released in 2018, it did not perform well at the box office despite receiving strong critical appreciation.

Over time, the film gained a cult following among audiences. Its 2024 re-release performed much better and showed renewed interest. This growing popularity has played a key role in the decision to develop a sequel.

However, Tumbbad 2 faces certain challenges. Adesh Prasad is directing the sequel, but Rahi Anil Barve is not part of the direction this time. This change raises questions about maintaining the original tone and depth.

The first film stood out for its storytelling, atmosphere, and layered themes. Recreating that impact will not be easy. While the extended shoot schedule shows ambition, scale alone may not ensure quality.

The success of Tumbbad 2 will depend on how well it matches the originality of the first film. Expectations are now much higher due to its cult status. The sequel remains a promising but risky venture.
