The sequel to Tumbbad is shaping up as a more ambitious project, with the makers bringing international technicians on board. The focus is on creature and prosthetic design, signalling an expansion in scale. This move suggests a stronger emphasis on visual world-building.
Actor-producer Sohum Shah has confirmed that Tumbbad 2 will be produced under his banner, Sohum Shah Films. The film will also receive presentation support from Pen Studios. The sequel is now officially moving forward with a clear production structure.
One of the most talked-about developments is the inclusion of Los Angeles based concept artist Simon Lee, known professionally as Spiderzero. His involvement has generated strong interest. Expectations are rising around the sequel’s visual imagination.
Simon Lee has worked on Hollywood projects such as Godzilla vs. Kong, Kong: Skull Island and Pacific Rim. His background in large-scale creature design hints at a broader visual canvas. The sequel may aim for a more expansive cinematic experience.
Prosthetic designer Shaune Harrison has also joined the project. His credits include the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone film series and other major franchises. This suggests a strong focus on practical effects and detailed prosthetic work.
The emphasis appears to be on tangible character design rather than depending only on digital tools. This approach could add texture and realism. It also aligns with the grounded horror tone associated with the original film.
Despite the technical upgrades, questions remain about narrative balance. The original Tumbbad was praised for its atmosphere, rooted mythology and restrained storytelling. A larger visual scale may enhance the sequel but could challenge its intimate tone.
At present, Tumbbad 2 seems focused on blending Indian folklore with global production expertise. The collaboration is ambitious and promising. Its success will depend on whether spectacle supports the film’s core identity.
