Bollywood has long been interested in the phenomenon of “lucky charms”—actors whose screen presence appears to guarantee box office hits. Recently, YouTuber Bobby The Match Idol went so far as to claim Rashmika Mandanna as Bollywood’s new lucky charm.
Her on-screen appearances in movies such as Pushpa: The Rise, Animal, and Chhava have corresponded with record-breaking box office hits. While her Bollywood debut Goodbye flopped, all the major movies she has acted in since then have been blockbusters.
This has given rise to speculation about whether Rashmika is lucky for her movies or whether she simply makes smart choices when it comes to scripts and co-stars.
On the contrary, Salman Khan, the undisputed monarch of Bollywood’s 100-crore club, has experienced a lean spell in recent years. While Tiger 3 performed well, it was not able to match the success of his previous blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan.
Films like Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Radhe were not able to repeat the same magic. With Sikandar, Salman is now trying to make a big comeback.
If Sikandar does turn into a blockbuster, then Rashmika’s position as Bollywood’s golden girl will become stronger.
And if not, then the debate about whether she is indeed a lucky charm or just riding the wave of good work will continue. Everybody is waiting to watch this movie and decide if her streak continues.
