When the world was busy deciding if they should watch Barbie or Oppenheimer, some movie lovers ignored the battle completely. In the battle of one over the other, they choose both.
Nolan’s Sci-fi historical drama ‘Oppenheimer’ and Gerwig’s dashing ‘Barbie’ will hit the theatres on the 21st of June and on paper, it created a battle for supremacy.
What was supposed to be the Clash of Titans turns out to be a movie lover’s dream. Recently, AMC theatres reported that more than 20,000 AMC Stubs members have purchased tickets to watch both films on the same day.
“Just as exciting, with 10 days to go until these movies open, this may only be the beginning. From Friday to today, we saw a 33% increase in the number of guests who decided to create their own double feature by purchasing tickets to see both movies on the same day. We are thrilled to see this momentum.” Says Elizabeth Frank, executive VP of worldwide programming and chief content officer at AMC Theatres.
According to the early predictions, Barbie is destined to outrun Oppenheimer as it will appeal to a more diverse audience. Oppenheimer will also face massive competition from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One as the hype won’t die down in 10 days.
The ‘Barbieheimer’ campaign by the fans is doing wonders for both films. Though Barbie, from the very first day, focused on advertisement, Oppenheimer had faith in names like Nolan and Murphy. Barbie is estimated to draw around $70M-$80M and Oppenheimer is calculated at around $40M.
Whatever the box office number says, we can only expect an amazing experience from both movies. From the serious tone of Oppenheimer to the dazzling colors of Barbie land, why not enjoy both?
