More than half of the year 2023 saw an almost shut down of Hollywood. The SAG-AFTRA protest, joined by thousands of writers and actors, brought the whole industry to a standstill. Their demands were simple, which included getting adequately compensated for their work. However, the CEOs of major studios portrayed that the industry is cash crunched and there’s not enough to meet their demands.
The protest brought many actors and writers to the street and some find it difficult to make ends meet. But what happened to the CEOs who succeeded in cutting a deal that ultimately benefited the studios? They got a huge raise.
Although, the year 2023 wasn’t the best one for Hollywood, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, saw an increase of 26 percent in his compensation for the year. David received a compensation of $49.6 million for the year.
It wasn’t just him but other senior executives at the studio also saw a double digit hike in pay for the year 2023. The pay raise shows how the film industry runs like a corporation where the more you exploit your workforce and keep them on the brink, the more you get paid.
